I have totally reworked the first pattern that I did of the star log cabin. I will give some instruction here and show the first block. This is a fairly large block. It has six dark strips and five light strips, just like the Amish one.

First, cut a strip of paper 11 1/2 inches wide. cut one side at a 45 degree angle. Turn the strip and measure from the point of the just cut angle, 19 1/2 inches and cut the other 45 d angle.

Now rule your lines on the pattern. Rule lines for the dark fabric, 3/4 ins and the lines for the light side at 1/2. Number the lines, starting with the wider strips...1, 2, etc. Rule 6 dark lines on each side, and 5 light lines on the opposite side. You should end up with a nice size diamond for the middle.

I made the pattern on freezer paper and use that for my PP and will use it for all the blocks. You may have to go over the lines and erase some short ones because you will be counting the lines, starting from the center and that might change some of the lines where they intersect. Just remember to start with the dark, wider strips first.

When ready to sew the strips on, cut the dark strip at 1 1/4 ins. and the light at 1 inch. That will give you a 1/4 ins seam allowance on each side.

I choose a pretty christmas red print for the center diamond and just random dark and light christmas fabric. I am using what I have.

I do this pattern on freezer paper

Don't forget to check the other christmas tree skirt that I post here ..
