Thank you, everyone, for your kind words and good wishes. It is a very sad situation. My friend is someone who has a giving heart and a generous spirit. She has always been good with words, doing lots of writing, and has had a lovely singing voice which I often heard at church. She said she has been putting up stories on Caring Bridge because she doesn't want to dwell on her health. I thought the fabrics in the quilt mirrored her personality and attitude.

That's a lively quilt in both color and pattern. When we make quilts for someone with a terminal diagnosis, it really has an impact on us, as well as for them. I'm so sorry for her ALS , but I"m glad she has a thoughtful like you to help bring her some joy.
