Not stupid at all. D9P = Disappearing 9 Patch.

Sew a 9 patch block (your choice of square size) and then cut into equal quarters. Rearrange to your satisfaction and sew together.

Since I asked this question, I have actually started a D9P quilt for a grandson that will graduate next year. It has a back consisting of a flannel sheet that has black airplanes and helicopters on a army colored green with orange thing around. The D9P is being made out of many shades of green and orange. It is going good. I love this pattern. It is super easy. Thanks everyone.
