How interesting; I was just talking to Mother yesterday about the true Indian birchbark canoe we had for years in Michigan, and how much I long to paddle in another one. I assumed they weren't made any more. Obviously, there are more than one of us longing for the old-fashioned, high quality, hand-made items of yesteryear.

    So beautiful.

A friend of ours tried to hollow out a large tree to make a canoe. In order to do this one has to make small fires in the center and chisel out the charred remains. His canoe is now a watering hole for his horses. It didnt float.
