diamond string quilt
#14
hi bev, thanks for the kind words. this was a very simple quilt. i saw a picture of an antique quilt on line that was diamonds set in muslin. i thought i'd try the black setting and i think it turned out okay. i sewed the scraps together then trimmed to the diamond shape.
i have no idea how to tell you how to set it together cause it was strictly trial and error. but i know you can do it. it really is a scrap buster cause it takes quite a few scraps. have fun  :!:

nana, since you said not to ask, I won't; but I have never set anything on point, because I didn't know how to figure out the sze to cut the triangles around the perimeter. That black sashing really makes those string blocks pop. GREAT JOB.

hi gailg, i will try to give you a tip that i learned the hard way with this one. diamonds, for me, are really hard to work with. if you saw this quilt in person the major flaws in joining would jump out at you.
if i were to do this again i would make it with triangles then join to form diamonds. but since i didn't have a pattern i made a slew of diamonds then tried to join them. it was hard for me. i later saw a book from my library that showed this quilt made with rows of triangles joined in rows that formed diamonds. you didn't have to set it on point. it looked a lot easier. i have gotten so many good ideas from my library, especially since i can't afford to buy every quilting book i want.
