I think your kitty likes the window and gets a better view on a high spot. I only have one cat and he just likes to get in the fabric and sleep. Others I had liked to sit in the window when it was sunny, not on top though. The only thread he bothers is  when I am sewing and he wants to play :D

Mine all join me in the sewing room but generally only if I'm in there. The little grey one likes to sleep on the ironing board and I'm afraid she will get burned by the iron or knock it off and burn the house down. The other 2 cats usually just sleep on the bed and watch me occasionally. Of course, if I lay a quilt on the floor, it immediately has all 3 cats on it.

She's just saying that she's making sure the machine doesn't fly away. Cats have a thing with gravity. They think everything is going to float away, that's why they have to lay on it. :)
    She sure is cute!

One of my kitties is grey also. All of my kitties love to sit on whatever quilt I am working on at the moment. :-)

So sorry for the kitty who swallows thread. I guess I would have to ban them too. My cats just like to be near me.

My little cats love to come in and jump into the chair any time I or my DH get up. We end up shooing them out, but they sneak back in at the earliest opportunity. They are also Loved Cats - and think they are human! :-) One has a Hidey-Hole behind my work table, and before I shut the door I have to bend down & look behind to see if she is sleeping on the box back there. Once she got locked in for a whole day - she wasn't very happy with me! We have one that has the same markings - gray & peach tortoise shell - but mine is Manx - no tail!

Mine always steals my chair and is very disgusted when I make her get down.

I was using my tape measure on the floor then I couldn't find it. She had carried it to the other end of the house.

Aaaar thats so cute! like the others have said, probably a combination of 'look at me', the warmth and the high vantage point makes it a good spot to perch.

When I leave me sewing chair and come back to it, usually one of my cats is sitting on the seat, maybe because of the warmth left by my derrier (!) , but they are always staring at the sewing machine as if to say 'why are you getting all the attention!?

They also jump on my lap and wave their bum/tail in my face if I talk on the phone, and walk back and forth across the keyboard when I am working on my laptop.

    LOVE 'EM!!
