I never thought of a magnetic rod. I did change the shade and door shade again. I added about two inches to the sides for the window shade and quilted them both on the quilter and I like them even better. I just cut the old shade off and slipped the sleeve of the window shade on but I will definately look into the magnetic rod for the door.

For the window shade, I just fold it over and use a couple clothes pins to pin it to the side when I want the light.
