My DD made this quilt top for my GS for Christmas. She just finished the machine quilting the top today. It's not bound yet but we wanted to take some pics while we had some fairly good light and no rain. The center panel is titled Dragon In The Clouds and is a Japanese Furoshiki cloth. My GS was born in the year of the dragon and how fitting he should receive his new quilt in the year of the dragon. Once she binds and washes the quilt she is going back and do some more quilting in the center panel. The Furoshiki fabric is quite stretchy even though it is 100% cotton and she is hoping it will draw up a bit to make the additional machine quilting easier.
I know that the question is going to be asked, What is a Furoshiki? It is a traditional fabric square used to wrap gifts, packages and Bento lunch boxes.

The dragon is printed on the fabric. There are some awesome Furoshiki cloths at one of my favorite LQS, The Shibori Dragon in Lakewood, WA. Great store if you are looking for oriental inspired fabrics and Japanese fabric.
