Easy Quilted Throw for a hostess gift
My college roommate is hosting me, my husband, son, DIL and GD next month at her house for the weekend, plus having a BBQ for my mom's 88th birthday. She has adopted my mom and they go out to lunch every few months, on Mother's Day etc. Her mom died years ago and she lived on the opposite end of the country so didn't see her own mom very often. We live in IL and my college roomie and mom live in NC. I wanted to do something special for her so decided to make her a throw for her red couch. She loves bright colors. Her living room is two shades of gold. She quilts a little but has no time and is often paralyzed by fears of doing it less than perfect. That puts a little pressure on me then, doesn't it, LOL She actually purchased Kaffe Fassett fabric to make one herself, but I know it will take her years to get around to it. So.......in the meantime she can use this. The pattern is from byannie.com entitled and is a free pattern. Since the Jinny Beyer fabric Ambrosia is so busy, I thought I could practice my FMQ and did a Twice Quilted continuous (pumpkin and vine) line pattern by Glorianne Cubbage. Removing the paper was a pain but I found out the eraser end of the Frixion pen worked great at getting all the paper out of narrow spots and corners. Hope she likes it and doesn't look too close. Sorry, the close-up shots of the quilting broke the camera LOL

It's beautiful. Enjoy your time with your Mom.
I get hit with that 'fear factor'. I just finished a wallhanging for my Mom, who turned 84 last week. When I had it finished I remarked to my DH how I put off doing the FMQ for 4 days because I was 'afraid' I would ruin the design. Of course, it wasn't nearly as difficult as I had created in my mind. Encourage, encourage, encourage your college friend that if she keeps trying, settles for less than perfect... that one day she will break through. God bless you.
