Toogie, you did a wonderful job on a difficult project. You have such a good heart. I too, would like to know how the gift is received.

I think you did a fabulous job! It's beautiful, even if you didn't want to make it. Next time, "Just say NO."

After reading your post I was expecting to see something truly awful, but then I looked at the first picture and saw something very original, well made, and really marvelous. Maybe it's because I like scrappy quilts, but I don't see anything wrong with having a bulldozer in the mix. I like it! However I do think Emily needs to be educated in what to expect when she asks for a favor. If there's a next time, maybe insist that she do some of the actual work, so she can appreciate how much time and thought goes into it.

I so agree with you on taking in sewing and making something for other people when asked. It gets easier the more times you say no politely.
An example on this subject. I had really nice neighbors that I loved her kids. She had two little girls and I gave one a vintage animal applique quilt I made for her. The other I made a quilted hanger that would hold her barbie accessories. So, when there was a child's party that a costume needed altering, the mother showed up at my door to shorten the sleeves of a pre-made. I showed her how to do it and gave her a small new singer machine (still in the box) I had found at the secondhand store and was just sitting around doing nothing. It was a very nice machine, mind you. Then I said," You have two girls, you will need to learn to sew". Obviously, she never asked again. Mind you, she had a mother and a grandmother who both sewed.
I will say this, my friend pat, while she was alive, I would make anything for her. I am glad I did. For you never regret a good deed after they are gone. You only regret the things you didn't do.
Sorry about the ranting. I love the pillow. You did a fantastic job on it.

Yep, once you said broken chicken leg....that's what I see!

Honestly, while it might not be to your tastes, I think it's very creative and you did a wonderful job! I find it very hard to work on something I don't like, so I can understand how you didn't enjoy it.... but you still did it.

And I too understand how frustrating it is when people expect you will do something sewing-wise for them when they wouldn't think to ask favours of others in the same way.... I had to get firm with a family member who started buying clothes that were too large (because they were on sale and a great deal) expecting me to alter them because I did it once for her on something that was a gift to her and needed a little taking in...
