OK. Here's the secret. Did you get it right?

cut 8 pieces from strip set (this is 4)
[ATTACH=CONFIG]200095[/ATTACH]

rearrange like this and sew
[ATTACH=CONFIG]200096[/ATTACH]

This makes an octagon. Then sew black triangles on the four corners to make a square. No Pattern available, an original design and idea.

That's pretty cool.

And then you use your "pivot on the rivet" technique when sewing the units to each other.

Very cool.

Kudos - I love when someone comes up with an original - REALLY original - way of constructing something.

Very nice! I'm sure it will be accepted. Maybe you'll get a book offer! I put the quilt in EQ7 and the trace feature converted it to a block pattern but of course no idea how you stripped pieced it without the confusing seams. Great job!

looks like you have a blue ribbon there. Did you applique the colored pieces on?
