Family Name Quilt for Mom from Scrabble Tile Panel
A while back I saw a Scrabble quilt on the forum, and then I found it in a quilting magazine. My mother doesn't play Scrabble, but she does do crossword puzzles. She is 91 and frequently moves from the bed to the recliner at night when she has trouble sleeping. I wanted to make a quilt that she could use in the recliner.
So... when my sisters and I took a "sisters' retreat" in June, we worked on the layout and design of the quilt. It was quite a challenge to get the names to fit. In addition to the names, there are a few other words that we used, which helped make things fit in. The two letter abbreviations that you see are for the states where people are living.
This was so fun to make -- I enjoyed thinking about the people when I was sewing the letters together and quilting, and I am hoping that my mother will be comforted by thinking of her family when she is under this quilt.
The letters came on a Hasbro panel that I believe is out of print. Our family had so many "L's" and so many "J's" that I had to purchase 4 panels. I have a lot of letters left over, and I will have to think of another project to use those!
