It was basic Jo-Ann's acrylic paint (Craft Essentials but any acrylic paint will do, whichever is on sale) mixed with fabric painting medium ( I used Golden Artist Colors, but any brand will do). Used the pigma pens before I decided to embroider the signatures. And as it was acrylic paint, it was easy to remove with soap and water. We just had a bucket sitting on the picnic table with paper towels. One trick we found, paint it onto your hands, not dip into the paint. The "paint holders" were simple pie pans and used cheapie foam brushes.

Then we hung them up on the clothesline in the back.

Ridiculous idea? Heck no, this was a stroke of genius! I think the quilt is awesome and you executed it to perfection. I especially love the embroidered tree and that you hand embroidered over all the signatures to preserve them. What a fabulous snapshot of your family history you have created. Can you imagine how thrilling it would be for a family member to discover this quilt 100 years from now?
It also looks like many of your family members got very creative with how they applied the paint to their hands to make the handprint. Ooh edited to add I just saw your photos of the event, it looks like everyone had a lot of fun with this. So many good memories wrapped up in one quilt.

We are very blessed to have a gorgeous place to have our reunions at our second oldest cousins home. Including lots of room for the kids to run and a lake for the kids to fish. LOL Yikes, just realized I'm the 4th oldest cousin!!!
