I found this refurbished antique organ stool and it's great. I used to use my rolling desk chair but it would push away from the sewing machine when I sewed. Then I used a dining room chair but I was always twisting my back when I tried to move from machine to cutting table. The stool swivels and I can move from machine to cutting table and then to my computer on the right (not shown in photo). What a find!!!
Another tip is an egg timer. Sometimes I start sewing and HOURS go by before I know it. Now I set the timer for 1 hour, when it rings I get up use the exercise machine for 10 to 15 minutes. It helps with relieving back pain and I don't feel so guilty about not going to the Y.

I've collected decorative tins like holiday cookie cans for years (have way too many). I store my fabric scraps in them and now am sewing them up in a calendar quilt (one strip per day). That's my re-purposing.

I 24x6 1/2" ruler is my "new" fav tool. It is nice to be able to cut all the way along the fabric with out having to reposition the ruler all the time.

Great tip about the egg timer. I will have to start doing that myself.

I love that organ stool and the other items listed here too :D:D:D

My new favorite quilt toy is a narrow piece of manilla folder,

I line the edge up with my needle on one corner of the fabric and at the opposite corner of my fabric when sewing diagonal lines across fabric. Stitch along the edge of the folder. I found this tip here on the board. No more marking fabric :D:D:D
