I started this quilt over 5 years ago - possibly 6. I can't believe it took me this long to finish. For a while in that time, I wasn't sewing at all, but still. I started it for my niece, who is now in kindergarten. She also now has a sister. Uh-oh, you know what that means.... Fortunately I still have enough blocks to make a second one!

My SIL and I chose this fabric after trial and error of me trying to explain the elements needed for an OBW, and although I love the fabric, the blocks weren't as dramatic as I would have liked.

When I finally put it on the rack a month or two ago to finish, I realized that five years ago, my quilting skills were not what they are today, and this made it kind of wonky to quilt. I couldn't get my camera to cooperate this morning but I quilted the main top with my usual swirls and the borders with some embellished funky feathers.

I may wait to send it on to my niece until I have the second one finished. I'm not sure yet. It might motivate me to keep working on the second one, knowing that I can't send the first until that one's finished.

I love it. Always fascinating to see how the original fabric transforms.

This is so lovely and delicate! It was definitely worth finishing--even if it took six years.
