Finished Finally
I began this Hawaiian block in July 2012 through Academy of Quilting, instructor was Nancy Chong from Pacific Rim Quilting Co. My LQS in Snohomish offered classes this winter by Nancy, she has moved back to Everett so I signed up as I really like Hawaiian quilts. Long story but I pulled this out of UFOs and ripped out the echo quilting around breadfruit, requilted and finally finished it 6 years later, block is only 20" x 20". It is hand appliqued, quilted and finished. I am currently working on a bigger project (Turtles and Dolphins) and completed the applique last week and now ready to start quilting it. Nancy has a Help with Applique class every month at quilt shop which I am going to so I'm sure I'll get this one done quicker than 6 years.

I love Nancy's quilts. I made the Turtles and Dolphins quilt too. Yours are just lovely!
Weren't those turtle shell segments just hairy to do? Mine was my first needleturn applique experience.

Your quilt is beautiful and wonderful job on your first try on needleturn, your turtle heads are fantastic. Totally agree with you on shell segments. When I went to class (which is more of a get together and show what we're doing and pick Nancy's brain) and she saw I was skipping them for last and she told me to finish them because I would never finish if I saved the hard stuff for last. So true, she is constantly giving us little hints such as always thread your needle and have ready to begin sewing before you put project down, you're always ready to go. She is teaching us Celtic Knot next month, just feel so lucky to be able to have her teach us all her many years of experience.
