I like them both
Am making the same quilt, called Arkansas Crossroads on the Web, using a maroon in the honeycombs. Scraps for the squares, like yours.
Mine is a very late wedding present (married in October).

The red brings the x forward and puts the scrappy in the background. The white emphasizes the scrappy and serves more as a sashing. So the choice really depends upon what you're going for. I like them both for the reasons stated. Nice job. Thanks for sharing.

The white one looks tradionalist, the red one MODERN. I love them both. They are gorgeous. The 16 blocks actually look like they are floating!
