Ok.....I have this picture in my head of a beach scene......is it all just fused on and raw edge applique?

This is pieced using freezer paper templates. I left the templates on and cut a 1/4" seam allowance by eye. I've since made them raw edge as well though and couched yarn over the joins. I'd say start by drawing it actual size, keep the lines gently curving and fairly simple then trace you templates off that. Don't forget to reverse them. :-D

Very stunning! I don't think I would be able to do that though :( Maybe I'll just admire everyone elses and wish someday that I can create something that beautiful.

Love the piece, you did a wonderful job...I have a question, I love the name of the challenge, this year I have to come up with a challenge for my guild. If you can and it's not asking too much can you tell me the rulers.
    thanks

No problem! They were fairly simple - had to be 24" x 24" with the theme 'Flying High'. It could be any kind of technique - piecing, applique etc, by hand or machine or both but must be by definition a quilt, ie a top and a backing sandwiched over a batting. Hope this helps. :-D
