My DH just sold his late mother's house. He was walking through to make sure it was empty, opened a closet and found a bag. When he opened the bag, this quilt was in the bag! I don't know how we missed it.
His grandma was a quilter. He says he is pretty sure she made it with the help of his babysitter (she was 80 something years old) in the 50's.
I know that one square contains fabric from his baby blanket. He is 55.
There is no label  I wish I knew more about it.
The quilt is 82x102 and all hand quilted. The quilting in the boarder looks almost like a bowtie.
Any help you can give dating it or the pattern would be much appreciated.
    Please label your quilts.

Sorry, I can't help with dates or pattern, just wanted to tell you how beautiful your quilt is. What a find. Now I'll make sure ALL my quilts have proper labels.

Wow, can't help you but I will say what a great find!!! I can't believe that was almost lost. I'm a real sentimentalist for things like that and would love to have something like that to pass down through the family. It's very pretty and a nice design.

    its beautiful.

you should make a label and put it on the back so that future generations will know who made it.

The pattern goes by several names as do most block. Broken Wheel & Squirrel in a cage are two of them. I am not reall sure on the fabrics, looks like there is a pretty good mix of eras in it. There is one in there that I think looks like a 40's print but most look like probably 60's maybe late 50's. I know, I am no help!!! :D

Thanks for backing me. I told my DH that some of the fabrics were 50's and some look like 60's. His Grandparents had a Fishing Resort in Minnesota. They spent every summer there until the late 60's. That is where the ladies did their quilting. My guess is it was made in the early 60's.

I can't tell you a thing about it, but OOOHHHHHH what a nice find. I would be jumping up and down if I found this.

And yes, you are right. Put a label. Someone down the road will be very interested in the history.
