I had a time of it with these yesterday. I made these from a little kit fabric Kitty gave me. (It was not the pattern provided with the kit) I really only had enough to make these by inches! Then I have looked for 2 months to find that grey-green to finish the edges off with. I finally just used a brown to make the bias and sewed it on to both placemats. About three quarters of the way hand sewing it to the back ... I hated it!

I was overheated from the temperatures being a hundred yesterday. The air conditioner ran all day and my sewing room was still too warm upstairs. I just put them on a cutting mat and cut the edging off and threw it into the garbage and started over with this color. (Not usually like me, but I had had it!)

Anyway in chat this morning the gals asked I put them on the board for you to see. I honestly hate these mats now.. I can't wait to get rid of them.
    One finished ... One not.

red? was it the heat? or you don't like the brown fabric? I think they are great! I have some bird fabric, and this looks like a great pattern!

Hope the temp cools for you. I *hate* the heat with a passion.

But your placemats are simply adorable! The colors work so well together and your sewing is spot on. I'm so glad you shared these with us here.

I am sorry but I have to disagree with you . They are WONDERFUL
Truly worth the effort ! Finish them, put them aside and when you go back to them maybe you will be able to enjoy them

They are really nice. Makes me think of fall, which is hard to do in Arizona when it's still in the 100s :).
    Love them.

Thank You all so much. Very nice comments, every one! I finished them up after posting this morning, and I still hate them. I suppose it is when something just doesn't cooperate, it becomes a thorn to look at.

Yes Ruth Camp, the center block was appliqued on over the sewn blocks and then I cut away the back to get rid of the bulk. I quilted them and then took 2 months trying to find that dark green, almost grey to bind it with. If you are serious about wanting them they are yours. pm me...

I have been going though all my ufo's and finishing them since the beginning of the year. So, another one down.

I made a double ended pot holder today with some tiny old paper pieced sail boat blocks. They are coming out cute. So all is not lost. :D I really needed to have something go right for me today. I think it is I miss my dad .. He passed away a year ago.

Yesterday after reading your post, I came to realize that you were right. I was just sick of worring about them. They are just placemats for heaven's sake!
So I took out those little sailboats and just had fun putting whatever I wanted on them with reckless abandon. I had so much fun. Thanks for getting me out of the funk.

Really thanks to everyone .... I needed a little boost and you girls gave it to me. So thanks a million.
