    Geese flying through the trees

My client Rosanne made the quilt top almost 20 years ago. She finally realized she wasn't going to quilt it, so she brought it to me for finishing.

I quilted leaves on it, simple and clean lines. She loves it! Tonight will be chilly here in Pennsylvania, and Rosanne will be cozy under her nice "new" quilt!

Lots of piecing but real simple. And scrappy geese are a wonderful way to use up loads of scraps.

Great job quilting a nice top. I like how she put the strips of foliage fabric between the geese so she didn't have to make the points meet. Very smart. I loved seeing some old friends in her fabric choices too.

Thank you for your kind words. This is a setting used quite often in many early 19th century quilts-- a strippie. Four-patches on point were also quite common in strippie quilts.

These quilts work up quickly, with the long plain strips in between vertical rows of pieces blocks. They can be wonderfully graphic and lovely. And if solid strips are used, as in the antique quilts, that's a perfect place for exquisite quilting.

Please post pix when you finish! We love seeing the same pattern in different colors and settings-- amazing variety!
p.s.- I love your screen name. Coventry Carol is one of my favorite Christmas songs and evokes lovely memories of my childhood. My great-gran Maeve McSimmons would sing and hum it as we made shortbread together.
