I think strips would work out very well. Its a lot less piecing. It would be a braid quilt.

I checked out the Bee Square Fabrics blog on the zigzag quilt. It doesn't look it would be too hard to make. Thanx for the suggestion. :thumbup:

I checked out the Chevron quilt instructions on quilterscache.com and I like it too. I'll have to give this some thought before making my final decision, but I think quilterscache's instructions would fit the illusion I want to accomplish and I can just cut the lenghts of the strips to fit what I want to do.

Your design drawing is wonderful!! :thumbup: I can just see this quilt all made up in the prettiest color combinations!! I am glad you are starting now, for a Christmas time gift.
