Default GVSU Ensemble

Haven't posted in a while... My Niece, who sews, but has never quilted, wanted to make her daughter a quilt. She is a student at Grand Valley State University in Grand Rapids MI. I purchased the only fabric for GVSU, which is sort of an akward collage of different sized squares, so decided on sawtooth stars. We changed the layout part way thru and had some extra blocks. I long armed the quilt, made a pillow case and made throw pillows from the extra blocks. I was so proud of all her pointy points! The colors in the picture don't come thru, the stars are different shades of blue and the fabric that looks black is actually navy,

Great outcome and I'm sure you are both proud. Your niece's daughter will love it, for the college memories it brings to mind, but also that her great aunt and mom made it especially for her.

How great it is that you were able to find any fabric for Grand Valley State University. Some of the smaller schools are very hard to find. This is an exciting quilt and pillows to match! The quilt is well made and I am sure will be much loved. How pretty.

I love the way you put all the patches inside the centers of the stars. It's such a neat way to make a pretty quilt. I'm going to try to remember these ideas.
