I really love the quilt and the layout of the stars. Is there a pattern for the quilt? Or what size is your blocks? The larger stars may be a 12 inch block but the friendship stars look like a different size. I am thinking this would make a great quilt of valor in red/white/blue. Great job, both of you!

The friendship stars are a secondary pattern formed in the sashing. For instance, this 3" sashing has a 3x3 cornerstone and the 3" wide sashing is snowballed. When sewn together, it forms the friendship star.

Hi. Thanks for the compliment! No pattern, just cut the large star center squares at 6", which made a finished star block of 12".
Although I have made quilts using the sashing layout Nancy provided, in this particular case we made friendship stars that finished at 6" and used them as cornerstones with wide 6" sashing. We only had a yard of the GVSU fabric so we needed to pad out the stars a bit!
