This basic 9 patch is a lap-sized quilt. I thought this would be a good one to try my hand with freehand quilting. I've done stitch in the ditch for all my other quilts, but wasn't sure that would work well for 9 patch. Any thoughts as to what might look good? Thanks!

What about "x" thru the blocks instead of Stitch in the ditch?

That might help identify the squares.

I like to start from one corner and stitch with a walking foot to the other side. When finished do it the other way and it creates a secondary design.

I have seen quilts with "x" in the blocks and it seem suitable for this pattern.

Hello! I've done the same quilt with the x on each square from corner to corner- looks great.
I don't like to stitch in the ditch for hand quilting.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean when you say go back to make a secondary design.
Nice to read all of your comments -- any thoughts for curved lines?
