I was searching for New York Beauty quilts and this thread came up. I am again amazed at the hand-quilting shown here. I love machine quilting, too. But I think the joy of patiently working on a quilt is so rewarding. I'm going to plan a quilt to put in the frame this winter-maybe!

OMG beautiful quilts all of them. Only very talented hands could do such beautiful quilting. Keep up the good work.

Your quilts are wonderful. I too do hand quilting. I have in the last few years done some machine quilting but I really enjoy the hand work. And I think it takes too long for most people. It takes several months to do what a machine can do in a day and most people want to move onto the next project. I don't think the shops encourage hand quilting because hand quilters don't spend like machine quilters do. At one quilt shop I was at when I told the owner I hand quilted he put his hands over his ears and said "don't say that four letter word". I am so grateful for all the machine quilters, since it has taken off there are so many more choices of fabrics and the work they do is gorgeous. It's like any other hobby, there are so many ways to enjoy it. To some people hand quilting is torture and to me it's so enjoyable and I do it till my fingers bleed..But at shows, they should not be in the same category. It's completely different.
I wish I had someone around me who enjoyed it as much as I do.

Your work is beautiful. I prefer hand quilted quilts, from the simple outlined designed to the more elaborate ones like yours.

First off I bow to your superior talent. It is a sad day when handquilting is not recognized at quilt shows separately from machine quilting as it is an entirely different technique that was the start of quilting as we know it. I am a beginner and have so much to learn. I have taken a handquilting course and plan on someday handquilting a quilt. This year has been devoted to piecing accurately and learning to quilt free motion. I recognize that my talent is limited only by my own efforts. Your quilts are exquisite. Nothing anywhere can match your precise stitches. That must be why the manufacturers are attempting to get stitches that look "handmade". Be proud of your talent and show it off as much as you can. Thank you for posting as you're an inspiration to all of us.

you are an absolute inspiration to me. i am new at handquilting, and i find the simple method of hand piecing in the evenings so relaxing and calming as well. i aspire to be excellent in both areas of hand and machine quilting some day. it is a HUGE goal but it just gives me more to work towards. thank you all for sharing your opinions!

Your quilts are beautiful! I admire your handquilting , that is the way my Aunt quilted, and she tried to teach me. I was never able to accomplish the perfect tiny stitches that she did. But I love the look.
