Shop at fabric shack on line, they are brilliant and really cheap postage.

Wow! If I were you, I would be cutting up every piece of spare clothing, tablecloths, napkins, sheets, anything I could get my hands on - just to avoid and offset the high costs!

Love your fabrics, though!

We pay roughly the same price for fabric here in Australia. Anything from $24 to $28 per metre (39 inches) Although I did see a new fabric range in a LQS for $32. Didn't get too close it frightened me
At these prices it is an expensive hobby and as I mainly make charity quilts I couldn't make as many as I do if I paid these high prices. I have my favourite online shops and I rarely pay more than $8 per yard, and that includes shipping charges.

If I ever holiday in the US there will be a couple of empty suitcases

I could never afford to sew or quilt at those prices!! I cringe when I see prices here for $9.00 a yard. I think I will quilt complaining and be so very grateful to get it at these prices compared to yours.

And we think it's expensive here in Australia. Luckily we don't incur import duty unless it is over $1000. I now buy most of my supplies on line. Don't even shop eBay much these days. The more you do it the easier it is. I can still remember how nervous I was the first time I bought international.
