Well Patti you have excelled yourself, I KNOW how much this quilt means to you, as I can see a little bit of you in every stitch and colour, what an absolute treasure, no wonder DH claimed it for his own, it has a special name made by his special lady, truly wonderful :D :D :D

Patti,
That is one of the most beautiful quilts I have ever seen. The detail work is amazing! You and DH should be so proud...just incredible.
I don't know what you are planning next, but this will be very difficult to top.

Oh my ladies...wow, thank you sooo much for your kind words!!
To answer a few questions...
The pattern is one that I came up with while doodling nervously while DH was in emergency surgery last spring. It helped to occupy my mind and fingers. All except for the triple borders...the ladies here helped me figure out that it needed the 3 borders to tie it all together.
The Flying Geese were paper pieced and I figured out that I'm just not good enough to do them any other way...and that was the easiest!
It is all machine pieced (except for the applique) and quilted and the entire process from design to finish took a year (hmmm, almost exactly now that I think about it). Of course, sometimes she just sat for a couple of months while I had to think through what needed to happen next...so I don't really know how long it would take if I just sat down with the pattern and didn't need to make decisions.
And "wooling it around"??? It means just carelessly dragging something and then wadding it up every which way...(he did watch me trying to stuff it through my little sewing machine  )
Since she is sooo large, I couldn't keep it a secret from DH..so he got to help make decisions along the way. I must say...he has good taste, and yes, he is very happy with it....he says "One" of his favorites...
