It is too bad you don't have a before photo, that would have been great to compare. I think the finished product is lovely and I wish I could feel it myself. I think the feathers are a great choice, there is enough width to the feather that I fully believe the quilt maintained its softness. Great job!

I have a few questions :)
1) The quilting stabilized the quilt and took away some of the wonkiness. Would this have worked if it had been quilted on a domestic machine - or was the frame the key to getting it straight in the first place, then the quilting just kept it straight?
2) You said that it would have been a "game changer" if there had been sashing or internal borders. Why?

First I want to say, BEAUTIFUL. I love feathers and hope to be able to make them that way some day.
Second, unless you micro stipple with metallic thread, I don't think you can quilt so much it makes a stiff quilt. Obviously when there is more thread than fabric, it will get stiff by virtue of the thread tension. I put some practice fabric on my long arm and scribbled all over it, then I changed colors and tried again on the same fabric. It has body but it isn't stiff (the dog likes it). I think because there are some luxuriously soft fabrics out there people assume every thing should be that way. After all, we are working with cotton fabrics and lots of seams.
