I made two rag quilts for twin boys age 4. They came out an unusual size. They are 53 X 58 inches. Someone I showed them to thinks I should add a border all around to lengthen them and hide the rag-style edges. Would you do that or leave them as they are? If you think I should add a border, do you hae any suggestions how to go about that? Thanks for looking and offering help/opinions. P.S. I'm a newbie. pic should be attached

I did raggy quilt for about 3 years; everyone loved them! I wouldn't do anything to them; for boys that age, seems like a good size. Just my opinion.

Me-thinks the person who is making the suggestion, doesn't understand what rag quilts are about. I haven't seen any that have been completed with borders, to remove the raggy edges!

Size wise, I wouldn't think 4 year olds would need one over five feet ... unless these kids mare "growing like weeds".

I agree with everyone. They seem like they will be perfect for the boys. I wouldn't change anything. They are great, by the way.

I think they are perfect! Some people complain if their ice cream is cold so I wouldn't pay attention to them.

I think the size is good. and if you like the raggy edges then keep them. I myself like them and think they look great on the boys quilt. Good job!

That's the perfect size for kids that age -- big enough to lay on, under, in... but small enough to drag around. My kids are just a bit older and still prefer their quilts about that size.

My MIL did rag quilts a few years ago for christmas and bordered them... she did kind of a really wide binding if I remember right. Sewed 2 strips together and folded them in half then attached them to the edges of the rag quilt -
I wouldn't though - I think your quilts are just right as they are.

if you want them a bit longer you could just add another row of blocks
they are cute just the way they are- and raggy quilts often have raggy edges- i wouldn't struggle with adding borders- another row of blocks would make the quilts a bit longer-more proportionate- but the boys are not going to care if they are more square than rectangle...they will love them just the way they are.

the whole point of a raq quilt is the ragged edges. You did a great job and I'm sure your kids will love it.

I think these are a great size. Don't change a thing. They will have a wonderful time making forts, etc. and dragging around.

    Right, what she said.

About the size, the boys will be growing so that's no problem, they'll be using these quilts for years to come.
