You can't go wrong with Log Cabin. I do not know how old it is, but it is suggestive of the period.

My DSIL does double wedding ring quilts all of the time, and she goes down to the local JoAnn's and buys a foundation type fabric with the pattern printed on it so all you have to do is sew the squares on and it teaches you how to do it.
The same company prints different patterns on lightweight muslin ... like paper piecing, but you don't have to take the paper out.

if she knows where they came from, you can do a rocky road to.....quilt and change the name to rocky road FROM...

that would be in keeping with the history of the furniture.

EDIT: i said rocky road, but it could be any of the state name quilts. you can find all of them on bellaonline.
