Your quilt is very interesting to look at.
It will be interesting to see how you finally decide to quilt it ...
does your machine have the ability to do darning? That is the technique used for free motion quilting ... a walking foot for your machine would be determined by whether it is a high or low shank or slant shank ...

Your quilt is lovely. The only thing I can suggest is that you do some kind of chain or wavy pattern in the plain borders. It is always nice to have a curved element in such a geometric quilt. I usually take the quilt out of the frame, lay the quilt on a large flat surface like my ping pong table and do the last borders that way. A simple chain design goes very quickly. It will take you longer to mark it than do.

Colour choice is absolutely gorgeous. Stitch-in-the-ditch for the stars is perfect, but, for the borders, a small crosshatch or close diagonal would be awesosome. If you mark it using one of the star points as reference, a diagonal line is very enchancing without taking away from your stars and gives you that old world flavour.

That is a beautiful quilt. I would be in a hurry to have it done and displayed in a place of honor. If you have been hand quilting it thus far, I don't think I would add machine stitches. I love both, but not necessarily together. All the suggestions for finishing up the borders are good. Beautiful color selections!
