My husband's deceased mother and great aunt created the Christmas tree below from old buttons and costume jewelry. They called it "the Family Jewels," and it was a big joke to get the reaction from any newcomer in the family. It now hangs in our living room, and being very heavy, it is a booger to put up and take down; so I decided to make a wallhanging to cover it up so it could remain in place all year long. I just finished it -- yes, I know it is almost time to remove it again -- and I think I'll call it "Hiding the Family Jewels." I designed it on EQ6.

I'm afraid I'd leave the family jewels out all the time...I really like it :)

I just love that tree. It's really beautiful. It inspires me to make one with some costume jewelry someone recently gave us. My daughter and her son live with us while she goes to nursing school, and someone gave her the jewelry, but she doesn't use it. That is a great way to use it since it is all so colorful. I love your cover up, too and the title for it. That's really cute.

I was a little nervous to read at 1st. lol
But I think it is neat, I have taken some jewelry from family members and fixed them in a shadow box. I think it is a shame how often we hold on to all this stuff, but it isn't being shared and enjoyed with others. LOVE your tree, and what a great way to display and share family history!

Love the family jewels and the story behind the name. Great. Nice cover-up.
