That is really a good idea!

Sorry I missed the previous post on quilting sideways. What is the purpose of quilting this way

Looking at it, you could do it without cutting a hole. Just two pieces of wood the same size and the join it up with a thin bit of ply at the top. The two legs underneath would be used to pin the ply on top with naills, do you think that would work? It would mean I would need to think about using a power tool. I am going to go have a look what I have in the basement.
I think that would work just fine since you have a solid cover over the top.

Thank you. It felt a little odd at first, especially when I needed to change a setting on my machine or raise the presser foot, but after a few minutes it was fine. The first couple of quilts I did with the machine in the normal position and I kept running out of room on the right side and was constantly having to repoisition the quilt. With the machine turned this way, I have plenty of room on both sides and could quilt a larger section before having to reposition. I love it!

Thank you all. I have only been quilting about 3 months and have learned so much from all of you. I'm just glad I could share something in return. Please post pictures of the tables you build.

I think this is a great idea and you are a very clever, innovative thinker. I wonder about static electricity when the quilt travels across the vinyl. Has this been an issue for you?

I haven't had an issue. I got the idea of using the vinyl from others who use it for their quilting surfaces. I guess if you had a problem, you could use static guard on the back of your quilt.

Your table is really nice. I'm going to try it. And thanks for the sideway quilting tip.
