:) :) I did the corners on my Spiral circle and it is a bit wonky. It won't lay flat and I did every thing the directions said. When I first cut t he big circle to fit the spiral in it, I cut it too large and it had about 6" of fabric that I couldn't pin down so I put it up for a spell and then later thought if I cut the navy blue fabric in half I could adjust it. I got it all to fit togeher, but it won't lay flat so I'm hoping it will quilt out. Going to try and let out a little bit of fabric where I cut it in half and sewed it back together to fit the spiral and see if that helps any. Other wise, I don't think I can do any thing else with it. All that hard work down the drain. Enjoy the picture any ways, unless any one has any idea what to do with it. Huggies, Fay

What if you take the border off and applique the pretty spiral onto a whole piece of fabric? It would probably look the same in the end. (Although maybe applique isn't the right term when it's such a large piece.)

hmmmm, can you take up more of your seams a bit in some of the spirals? that would help it lay flat again.

Here is my cheater secret :wink: add an extra thin layer of batting to the area that is a little larger and poofy. It will help fill that "poofy" area. AND it looks like you planned it that way the whole time :D

Thanks, the circle will lay flat, but it's the fabric around it that won't lay flat. I think I will applique' it on a big square if I can't do any thing else wiht it. good thing it will be a lap quilt and not a big bed quilt. Thanks for all the replies. Huggies, Fay

Did you 'ease' the border around the circle? I haven't 'eased' any curves into anything in 35 years - but know from 'old' experience that curves need to be eased or they don't lay right. Way back when, I was taught to ease a curve by clipping small cuts into the seam allowance of the two fabrics that were joined, making sure not to clip into the actual seam. I don't know if this technique is used anymore.

How to Ease Stitch

To ease in fullness, use one or two rows of ease stitching. Use the same technique as for gathering.

1. Stitch close to the seam line with long machine stitches extending stitching slightly beyond markings, leaving long thread tails.

2. Stitch a second row 1/4" away in the seam allowance for set-in sleeves.

3. Pin fabric with right sides together and eased side up.

4. Pull up thread between markings and distribute fullness evenly.

5. Stitch with standard stitching along seam line, leaving a smooth seam.

Well I went back to the machine and tried the easing and it did help but not a lot. I think it is the fabric itself that is a bit wonky. I'll just have to try to quilt it out maybe that will help it. Grrrr..... good thing this is got going to any one but me. I'll toss it on the couch when I get it done. Thanks for all the input, Huggies, FAy

i think it will be beautiful! You could "toss" it my way if you don't like it. lol Please post pics after quilting...even if you are not happy with it.
