I showed this stack n whack last summer and just pulled it out to work on.
I want to do the shawdow effect but was thinking with my drk purple I might not get the effect but looking throught the camera I like it!
Hoping to get more of the lite purple or similar tomorrow.
okay my ? is how wide to cut the black. My blocks are 16.
Should I do 11/2 unfinished or can I go to 2 or 21/2?
THanks Gale

That block is beautiful! I agree, a little wider on the shadow strips! I can't wait to see it finished! :D

Also agree a little wider on the shadow strips. I'm working on 12" blocks and have a 2" shadow strip and that looks great, so I think finished size strip could be 2 1/2 to 3" wide. I think I would go with the 3" which means cutting 3 1/2" strips before sewing.

I am not a fan of the stack and whack but I love your block. I might have a change of heart after seeing it.

Wow I was thinking when I said 21/2 everyone would think too big! Bigger it is then.
Thanks Gale

I like this technique with the shadow. I have several sets of blocks that were given to me and the usual setting w/ sashing etc just wasn't thrilling me. I may try something like this. Beautiful block, by the way. Please be sure to show us the finished quilt when done. Thanks for sharing.
