If she thinks beach I would try them against a sand tone batik for the big squares and wide border, with a narrow border of squares from the blocks. Large beach theme quilt motifs in the solid squares and maybe clamshells for the border.

Nice blocks and should look great even with the purple mixed in. Do not put them with something light like what you have the blocks sitting on now. On point in rows with sashing in between would make a great quilt. Stick with batiks. JMHO Good luck.

I think it would make a beautiful bedrunner with solid and print sashing or borders or both.... Just an idea... :-D

Those blocks are beautiful - don't know why you aren't crazy about them. I really like Tippy's suggestion for Sand, Sea, and Sky. Can't wait to see it finished!
