It is actually Link from Zelda holding the triforce.

As far as borders, a small thin green and then a blue one and I would bind it in yellow to make everything pop. I would also consider cross-hatching for the quilting or a small meandering.

I would just like to say that I LOVE this quilt! Zelda is one of my favorite game series ever!
