After moving to this home in Oct 2010 we started a large remodeling project to update and I hadn't even been able to pull my things out of the boxes until the last month. We are retired and have scaled down by half in square footage and that meant getting rid of a lot of unnecessary items. In 40 years of marriage I had never had a dedicated quilting/sewing area. This home came with an unfinished basement and I was determined to carve out a corner for myself. I saved cabinets that we had removed when we opened a wall in the kitchen and made an ironing board to place on top. I found a table with possibilities on Craigslist. I saved doors that we replaced with new ones. This last week my DH and I have worked our buns off cramming everything into the space that is finally just for me! He cut a hole in the table for my new Janome 7700 so that I won't have to lug it out every time I want to sew. My old desk had a door placed on top of it to become the cutting table so I won't have to crawl around on the floor to use the big cutting mat. I spent weeks organizing fabric onto foam boards that I cut from sheets I purchased at the dollar store. This week I am going to find myself a flannel backed vinyl table cloth and attach it to the wall for a display wall. I have attached photos below. I spent all morning down there listing to music and happily organizing things so I can find them (hopefully). As you age organization becomes more important because the mind starts playing hide and seek on a regular basis.
