Default I just learned Hawaiian Quilting!

I learned this technique from a woman who lived in Hawaii. The traditional pattern is cut from folded fabric, much like we used to do to cut out snowflakes as children. It is then needle-turned applique' (new to me) and then "echo" quilted by hand. Quite a stretch outside of my box, but I really enjoyed it. I am going to turn it into a large tote bag. Others are choosing to make pillows, but I figure, one can never have too many bags (or is that diamonds, or shoes)? Hahaha.

Very cool! I like how it turned out. Please post the tote when you get it done. And I think the answer is all of the above a girl can't have to many totes, diamonds, shoes, or Fabric. :-)

I didn't know the patterns were cut out like a snowflake. That's really cool. You did a lovely job. Peggy

Nice job. I really appreciate this technique, as I had a friend who also lived many years in Hawaii and did beautiful HQ. Sadly, she and her sister were killed by a drunk driver, and I miss her vivacious personality so much. A tote is always a good idea to make use of something special!

Love it. My sis lived in Hawaii for several years, and got me a couple books with patterns. I have needle turned a 13" breadfruit and went once around with hand quilting...but GAH! I'm so slow! I'll be a hundred before I finish!
