Just in case anyone is interested these are the materials I used to make my barn quilt and how I made it.

The plywood piece is almost 2' x 2'. I found it that size in the lumber section of Lowes. I read some instructions somewhere on the net and bought the following. Wood glue to seal the edges of the wood, a quart of latex primer, a quart of grey exterior paint, a quart of bright purple exterior paint for the design, and a quart of Spar varnish to finish it. I had sand paper and painters tape. I had my paint brushes already. I used a sponge brush to put the glue on which was a bad idea because it started to fall apart. I also used a sponge brush to do the primer painting. I put four coats of primer on it sanding between each coat with fine sand paper. I drew my design on after the last coat of primer dried. I used a picture of a hunters star that I found on the internet. I used small paint brushes to put the color on with lots of painters tape. I put two coats of color on. I painted the sides and the back with the grey paint. It's ready for varnish now. I'm just waiting for my weather to dry up a little so I can take it outside and put the varnish on.

Love it. It looks great from this distance. I'm sure you are better at painting than you think. Looks perfect.
