I decided to cut lots of my fabrics that I didn't like so well and some I doubted I'd ever use in a planned quilt. I sorted them by lights, mediums, and darks and put them in plastic tubs. I left them in whatever lengths they were as they were cut. I cut them 2", but jelly roll patterns are made with 2 1/2" strips, so that might have been a better choice. I just sat and picked up strips one at a time as I made each block. The hardest colors to use are the mediums because many do not have the contrast you need in the cabin quilt. I have plenty left for lots more projects! I feel guilty every time I look at those tubs and wish for MORE fabric! ;-)
