Somebody check my math, but here is what I came up with:

The HST height and width is 6.5 stripes. If stripes are 1.25", then the HST is 8.125" (8 and 1/8). The stars are 6 stripes high, and 8 stripes wide, so that piece is 7.5 x 10.0. The long stripes are the same as 3 HST, so those are 24.375 (24 and 3/8). The short stripes are 24.375 - 10 = 14.375. If you add a 6" border, that puts your finished quilt at ~ 61 x 85, so you'd use a twin size batting. These are all finished sizes so you have to add seam allowance.

If you want it a bit smaller (and also avoid the 1/8" measurements) your finished stripes are 1" wide, HST is 6.5", stars are 6 x 8, long stripes are 19.5", and short stripes are 11.5".

Someone please check me as I am not a morning person!

    Darren

If you get a pattern, I am asking that you share it with me. Our guild is making quilts for the FT. Riley soldiers also. I have made two already. I also make QOV for other groups and would like to have this pattern. Really like the quilt and it doesn't look too hard. Thanks for all you are doing.

I did find the flag pattern at http://www.spunsugarquilt.com/2010/0...atriotism.html and the squares are just cut on the diagonal and pieced to form the chevrons. Thank you to every one who took time to reply. I so appreciate your help and I believe Ms. Raylene will be working with the group. Thanks again! As a side note to Ms. Ellen, "Non sibi sed patriae"! I am a Very Proud Marine Mom X2 myself, so SEMPER FI! God bless all of you, and have a great weekend!

It's called "Stars and Stripes" and it is in the Fons & Porter volumn 13 from Sept of 2001.

I love this site! I had visited another board (which shall go unmentioned) and no one ever responded to my query - I will have to delete my account with them! lol But you are so right! I had not expected these many responses - overwhelming! And I so totally appreciate everyone taking time out of their day for this one quest! God Bless!
