Invented a new quilting technique on this baby quilt
I call it "stitch somewhere near the ditch." I didn't realize how hard it was going to be. I thought the IDT would make it easier, which it probably did, but this definitely is not my best work. The pattern is in a book called "Modern Baby" from That Patchwork Place. We knew right away that we wanted to use the pattern, but wanted more contrast for a baby. This quilt goes to my wife's friend from college. Her baby is several months younger than Emmaline. It's the first thing we have finished since Emmaline was born.
We diagonal pieced the back, and we used almost all the fabric we had. We thought the back was a perfect complement to the front.
Thanks for looking.

SITD is such a pain in the butt! I swear it only works with total concentration and going very, very slowly. Why bother? Still, I go back to it so often. Glutton for punishment, right?
Love the bright colors in your quilt and the baby won't notice if you veered off a seam!

hah! I feel your pain! I only ever do SITD now when I hand quilt. When I machine quilt...which granted, I've only done a couple times on small projects, I leave my feed dogs UP, use my even-feed foot and quilt 1/8" next to the ditch. I gave up, so to speak...koodos for sticking with it! Baby will love it!

Close is good! That's my theory. I have practiced it this way for a while, just never named it. BTW, the quilt is beautiful and you are right, the back is perfect. Babies and children, can sort of slow down the quilting process. Congrats on Emmaline. Pretty name.

I like your quilt and the backing is a perfect fit.
I hear you about the SITD. I now do stitching about 1/4" outside the ditch.
My friend now uses a double needle and stitches on each side of the seam. I may try that next time.
