@ Kris -- no, just strips of random scraps from other projects stitched together in color swathes, then trimmed to an even size (determined by the narrowest scrap .) I did press and starch my scraps and then press heavily after stitching , but it's a really forgiving process -- to my mind, the uneven strips and a bit of wonk add to the visual appeal.
