I delivered the quilt during our 5000 mile road trip, and as you can see, Jacob, our grandson, is truly darling.

Great photo..... love both the quilt and the child.... you have done well with that quilt.... what size are the blocks and what is the finished size please.... I am doing one along the same lines... the blocks are six and a half inches square... keep up the good work, you are doing very well.

The blocks are 5 inches square. This is the first quilt I have hand quilted in probably 15 years, and found myself very much out of practice. I will have to do some more soon.

We left Dallas on Wed. July 25, headed for Grand Junction Co to surprise my dad. Then off to Salt Lake City to see family, on to Idaho to see my sister, then to Seattle to see Jacob and his mom (our daughter) and dad. Then a long 3 day, 37 hour trip home. It was a great trip and we saw tons of stuff, visited this quilt shop in a little bitty town in the mountains of southern Colorado (and bought fabric, of course), and had a great time. We will, however, think twice about trying to do it again, as it was somewhat strenuous.

isnthatodd.......Wish I had been with you. Road trips with hubby are my favorite trips. There were still a few states we hadn't visited when he retired in 1999. We tossed around a few ideas...like fly to some point west and take the train back or vice versa. I never thought he would drive (or ride) that far, but we finally decided to drive without making any reservations and stop whenever we got tired. We were gone 6 weeks and had meant to stay longer, but he began to have severe pains in his leg...so I drove him home from California as quickly as possible.

We went straight to the doctor, then the dealership and traded the car for a mini van (more comfortable sitting) and have been taking long road trips ever since, but looks like we'll probably have to go back to flying everywhere....and hopefully by train. We have now been in all 50 states.......some many times and some places we want to explore more.
But we recognize that our reflexes and eyesight are not what they used to be....sooooooooooo

What a wonderful quit, totally cute tot and great story. I gave my son a quickie quilt I made when he was born. 18 years later it's a bit tattered but he won't part with it!

You should do a quilt based upon your trip!

Someone I was talking to told me the same thing- turn pictures into quilt pieces and go for it. Sounds like a challenge to me, and something to design in my "spare time"!

I am sure you are very proud of both the grandson and the quilt, and you have every right to be. I don't have any grandchildren yet, but I like to imagine them wrapped in something I made... sigh.
