I found a free stained glass pattern on the web http://free-stainedglasspatterns.com/2janisjoplin.html and I modified it slightly and came up with this:

I'm hand quilting it with different titles of her songs. What I've gotten done so far is the song Try. The backing is a Michael Miller fabric that is swirly and awesome. I'll post more when I finish it up.

I loved Janice Joplin! Her Pearl album was my favorite for many years. I still have it. "~)
Aretha Franklin was the other best to me...

Anyway ... I am really liking this tribute quilt to her you have made. Nice job!

I saw an exhibit about her at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland this summer. They showed an interview of her telling that she was laughed out of her family and laughed out of school and laughed out of her home town. The interviewer asked what she was going to do now that she was famous...she replied, "Now I'm going home." I thought it was great that she was going to show them the sucess she had reached inspite of her critics. She was a great artist.

How neat! My DH would love this; he's a huge Janis Joplin fan. What a great idea to quilt it with the titles of her songs.

maryb119, we only live about 60 miles from Cleveland, but have never been to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I knew they had a Janis Joplin exhibit and my DH would love to see it, but too much has been happening for us to go. I'll have to check to see if it's still up.
