Did you fuse the koi to the back ground?

I'd really love to learn how to do that! Beautiful... but isn't all things Oriental beautiful?

    :D

You can do this! I was doing it before I ever started sewing other items. There are better ways and this is NOT the expert way, it's just quick and simple.

I use a 2-sided fusible product. I think Steam-A-Seam is one. I have one made by Pellon right now. I bought something like 9 yards for maybe $15? Not sure on that. You can get it in small packages or off of a bolt at Joanns. It's stuff that has a kind of tacky surface on one side and paper on the other. You fuse the tacky side to the object you are going to applique on and then cut it out. Then you have an "iron-on" that you can apply to another piece of fabric.

Anyways, I rough cut around my fish, leaving maybe 2 inches extra. Then I cut the fusible sheet to be slightly smaller than the fabric (this is imporant! ask me how I know!). I fuse it to the back of the fish and then cut out the fish.

When I am ready to attach the fish I put a couple of scraps of batting that are at least 1/2 inch from the edge underneath the fish, remove the backing paper and I press them into place being careful to make sure the edges are down firmly. Even easier without the batting under it.

Then I stitch around the edges. Done!
