Oh my heavenly days....THAT is what I learned to sew on when I was a grade schooler. Made my first blouse with a Peter Pan collar on that machine. My mom made all my clothes on a treadle. I would LOVE to have one too. Great for when the power goes out. ENJOY ENJOY! You have a great guy who bought this for you.

I am so happy for you! You will love it to pieces and have a ball sewing on it! It is so beautiful and clean and pretty! When my MIL passed away I asked for her sewing machine that no one wanted. It was a 1935 Singer treadle too! I was over the moon when DH brought it home. She made all four of her kids clothes on it for years and years. She never had an electric machine that I know of. I wish I could ask her why. DH says he remembers being on the floor and getting his finger caught in the foot pedal. Memories like that just mean so much. So in her honor I work on a flannel quilt every winter on her machine. I don't finish it, I save it over from one year to the next and keep adding to it. If I ever finish it, I will post a picture for sure. I know you will have a blast playing your little heart out on your wonderful new toy.

What a great find ($$$) and what a beauty, both machine & cabinet! Thanks for sharing your excitement and your photos. I think it's great! My Singer treadle needs a new belt and the cabinet refinished, but I will leave those needs for my oldest daughter to handle when she inherits the machine.

Oh my gosh! This looks exactly like the first machine I ever used - it was my grandmother's (with whom I lived) and she let me use it to make a pair of pajamas. The pajamas were wearable, but as I remember, pretty much came unravelled in their first washing.

I love your gift - it's priceless and so is your DH.

    Enjoy!

How lucky are you? What a beautiful machine. Someone really took care of it...it looks new. If only all of us aged so gracefully.

This is a gift to treasure for sure.

Besides all that! The fact that hubby found it in Washington state, gives all of us west of the Mississippi HOPE that we may one day find one of our own!
I recall a lady who found a Featherweight at her local garbage dump, complete with case, just sitting in the trash ... she was in Virginia! The difference in the way people on either side of the Mississippi are "managed" is staggering ... but, your hubby's gift to you give me hope ;)

It is gorgeous. What model is it?
I love old Singer sewing machines. (I have several.) It is really hard for me to pass one up and your machine is in great condition.
I live in Washington State too and most of the time, the treadle machines in that great of condition go for more than what you paid. (At least they go for more on the west side of the mountains. I haven't had very much of a chance to check out the east side.)

One thing about having a machine from the east side ... they are more likely NOT to suffer from moisture damage. (Spoken as a former Long Beach Peninsula resident)
