relatively easy way to make ruffles without ruffler: zigzag over dental floss or fishing line and then draw up the floss or line. Doesn't break the way using gathering threads does.

I think that using the ruffler attachment would make it easier rather than gathering, however, I learned a trick from a crafter years ago, she took a thicker thread - like quilting thread, did a wide zig-zag over the thread, then it was no trouble at all to gather the fabric. Just FYI and I found that besides making the gathering easier, you didn't have to worry about pulling too tight and breaking the gathering stitches.
